Dartmoor – Freya in a stunted Wood

I painted this in Dartmoor, in fact right on the moors. The landscape was bleak but somehow beautiful. The sudden little copse of stunted birches seemed to me full of movement, the branches waving like some strange underwater plant. In fact, the dog almost seemed to be an animated version of them!
