These bright hollyhocks formed a tangled mass at the Allotments for the Noble Poor at St Cross. They didn’t seem to belong to any particular patch, but everyone enjoyed them. I painted them entirely en plein air, but it was only after several attempts that I was satisfied that I had managed to convey the fantastic impact of those brilliant pink flower heads.
