Plum Tree at the Allotments

I loved the chaotic tangle of colour and shape around this small plum tree, the blue pink hollyhocks, and the singing red of the fruit, anchored by odd bits of allotment paraphernalia – the sloping roof of a shed, rusting corrugated iron, a random piece of trellis or the march of a row of canes. Somehow this painting achieved a sense of the atmosphere there without becoming too literal or pedantic, it’s rambling untidiness becoming a thing of charm, reminiscent of the state of our allotment after the birth of our first child!
