Snow near the Bush Inn

This painting is of a path which is part of a popular local walk behind the ‘Bush’ at Ovington, where the Itchen meets the Arle and various other small channels which are part of the ancient engineering of the water meadows. I divided the painting into two halves horizontally and let the filigree formed by the bare branches of the trees dance over the panorama of the water below, for it was all water, either flowing or frozen…although some small patches of foliage sprouted through the snow, and looked golden where they caught the thin sun.
