I put a lot of considered thought into the set up and composition of this still life. I liked the idea of two different but similar sized vessels, and I enjoyed the contrast of them both, the heavy old pewter and the rustic terracotta of the Devon milk jug. I also enjoyed the contrast of one being full, the other empty, and the problem all that created in linking the two. So I chose pink roses and allowed them to ramble across the top of the painting and chose to use the dripping form of a sharper pink fuchsia to drop in front of the terracotta.
