Fennel

I bought the fennel from the farmers market and laid it on newspaper on my kitchen table. It was inspiring because the feathery foliage had not been cut, and over the two weeks I painted its tangled mass, I saw tiny new green shoots sprout vertically towards the light. After a while the bulbs became stringy and discoloured, the new green growth overshadowing it’s host.
