Fish and Fennel on a Pink Cloth

I do love cooking, and have found that most painters of the natural world make good cooks. Perhaps this is because we spend a long time looking at and learning about the ingredients we use and this engenders a respect for them? Anyway, this is, unashamedly a ‘kitchen painting’, enjoying the decorative quality of the mackerel and the contrast with the white fennel bulbs with their feathery aniseed leaves ( a match made in heaven anyway). I loved all the colours playing on my much- loved grandmothers table cloth, which added a happy, sunny warmth.
