Silver Jug with Lemons

A small set up on a winters morning – I loved the thin old silver, the white cloth, bright yellow lemons. But the relationships between them kept changing with the light. Then, at last, a still moment when the sun came out and left it’s rosy presence on the cloth, fractured the reflections in the jug like water, and earthed the violet shadows of the lemons. An unexplained string of cold light on the cloth circled the silver jug. I painted feverishly and stopped when the moment passed.
