Mimosa and Hyacinths

This painting almost became a study in blue, in that I felt it was important to convey accurately the intensity of the Bristol blue decanter as well as the particularly distinctive blue of the hyacinths. The fabric of each, glass and petal, was of course, poles apart. Add to that the subtle purple blues of the warm shadows in the wood table,and the cool grey blues of the painted window frame, it is a happy thing that I had a wonderful feathery mimosa to hand, to visually pull it all together and add small dashes of yellow, like pepper to a dish.
