Sprouting Garlic

This painting always gives me a quiet pleasure. I was so struck by the individual cloves of garlic sprouting away in my vegetable rack that I wanted to paint them. The energy in the painting is all in the bright green shoots, the rest of it is a golden gentleness in the faded yellow tea cloth, picked up in the bright shots of gold in the decoration on the antique Limoges bowl which held the creamy garlic bulbs.
